Kia has achieved a significant milestone in the UK by selling its 1.5 millionth car, an all-electric EV6 model, marking their best April to date with record sales for plug-in and hybrid vehicles. The company is now the second top-selling eco-friendly car brand this year and ranks fourth overall in year-to-date sales, securing fifth place for April.nnThe celebratory 1.5 millionth vehicle was a Kia EV6 ‘GT-Line S’ in Yacht Blue purchased at Norton Way GWR Kia in Brentford, London on Tuesday morning, April 16th. This sale comes three decades after Kia’s first entry into the UK market with the Pride model and showcases how far they’ve come with advanced electric technology and design.nnKia’s growth trajectory shows that it took them 22 years from their launch in 1991 to reach half a million sales by June 2013 but only six more years to double that figure by January 2019.nnPaul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK, expressed pride over reaching this milestone during another record-breaking month of sales driven largely by their award-winning range of electrified vehicles. He credits dealer partners for this success and anticipates continued growth as they introduce more customer-focused products and services.nnApril saw Kia sell a total of 8,044 units which accounted for a market share of six percent. Eco cars played a pivotal role; half of all Kias sold were eco-friendly models setting new records for both hybrid (1,882) and plug-in vehicle (2,092) sales within the month.nnPopular models like Sportage and Niro Compact SUVs along with Picanto City Car contributed significantly to these numbers. Specifically noteworthy are Sportage’s sixth-place ranking among all cars sold in April as well as being third year-to-date with impressive figures both globally (49,077 units) including its best-ever PHEV monthly performance while Niro maintained consistent popularity across its electric variants.nnThe Picanto led its segment once again with strong monthly (1,148 units) and yearly (4,196 units) performances reflecting sustained interest even as newer versions hit the market featuring fresh designs.nnFollowing up on what was already their best quarter ever recorded earlier this year indicates robust demand continues unabated for Kia’s diverse lineup recognized through multiple awards.
