Oxfordshire: 30th May 2024
Hagerty announces the third of its 2024 Hang Out evening events with a special gathering to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its world renowned Festival of the Unexceptional, just a few weeks before the main event itself.

The main Festival of the Unexceptional concours event celebrates great, everyday classic cars and showcases the much maligned and long-forgotten ordinary classic cars of the 70s, 80s and 90s. It remains the only event in the world that celebrates the everyday cars we all know and love, in a traditional classic car concours setting. This year the 10th Anniversary event takes place at Grimsthorpe Castle in July.

And Unexceptional is not a derogatory term. FOTU cars are base models, devoid of frippery, the Merit, City or Popular specification cars that may have been unloved at the time, but now hold a special place in our hearts. There are countless shows for the GTi and Ghia models, plenty of concours for traditional classics, but only FOTU bows to the sheer brilliance of basic, and the blood, sweat, tears and financial investment that goes into keeping these increasingly rare cars on the road.

The Festival of the Unexceptional 10th Anniversary Hagerty Hangout is the perfect opportunity for owners of unexceptional cars to get together in a relaxed and informal environment, to celebrate the greatest of mundane motoring events, just a few weeks before the main Concours itself.

Taking place at the Hagerty Clubhouse, situated at the heart of Bicester Heritage, on Tuesday 11th June, the Hangout is open to anyone who drives a base spec hero, regardless of age, meaning any base model motor from the 1960s to 2024 is welcome. And with tickets priced at just £5 per car, guests are encouraged to bring friends and family along to make this a great value evening out.

A selection of food and drink will be available on the night, along with a first chance to see the brand new, 2024, Festival of the Unexceptional merchandise. The car deemed to be the most unexceptional of the night will be awarded with a detailing kit, and Hagerty ambassador Paul Cowland will exclusively reveal the 50 cars chosen to appear on the coveted Concours lawn at FOTU 2024, a hand-picked selection of the very best average cars the world has to offer.

Mark Roper, Managing Director of Hagerty International, said. “2024 celebrates 10 years of the Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional, and this pre-event party allows FOTU fans the chance to get an early preview of the event merchandise, as well as hearing what cars will be in the concours, before anyone else. If you have a mundane motor, this is the evening event you have been waiting for.”
